Baby Andrew: first pictures

we actually did a 4D ultrasound with Addie, but not the twins. they were just too squished! ideally i'd have Addie's pictures up here as well...to compare; but well, there's only so much i do right now. ;0)

but this little munchkin was so much fun to watch. our ultrasound tech was amazing: patiently working while the girls impatiently waited and i secretly wished for just one more minute! 4D ultrasounds can be hard to get and hard to read. heads appear to be cut off. body parts or umbilical cords seem distorted. noses sometimes get squished and hearts somehow appear...
BABY PICS_15
But that face is always there. And it's really him. Our baby Andrew!
Untitled-2We initially thought we weren't going to get anything. That his little hand would constantly be up next to his face. So the tech had me roll over & roll back & she patted him & pushed on him.
Untitled-1And dear goodness...he's perfect!
Untitled-3
His little room is blue & green & turquoise (minus the pink shades I need to bleach & flower valance i need to recover). His bed is back together & has all the bedding on it. His closet & his drawers hold little boy clothes. His blankets are blue & burp clothes look like they belong to a little boy! ...and I'm still in shock that we're having a baby boy!

Yet there he is. As visual as can be. He makes my belly roll & makes the girls giggle with glee to see it. He already weighs about 3lbs 10oz and I'm 31 weeks today.

...and there really isn't a day that goes by that I don't sit & stare at my growing belly in utter & complete awe! Well...when I get a chance to sit & stare at it that is! ;)

Children's

We have friends who's kids have spent a considerable amount of time at Children's hospital in Birmingham. From the NICU to prolonged illnesses to receiving life saving chemo to outpatient surgeries to unexpected emergency room visits, we know children's...but only second hand. Both little girls have had things "checked out" there before, but nothing that required any follow up.

And for that we are so thankful!

But Monday we took sweet Anne Perry to get her little raspy hoarse voice checked out. I brought it up at her 3 year old checkup, and of course our Dr. B sent us to none other than the best pediatric ENT, Dr. S. The possibilities: polyps that required a scope to be diagnosed or just nothing at all.

Since our last visit, everything has changed there. Building built. Renovations complete. And we ended up parking as far away as possible for where we needed to be! So what else does one do at Children's: take a wagon. Except we really needed two!
We made it ON TIME to our appointment (by 5 minutes early!) & my mom & i managed to occupy three kids 5 & under for an hour before they called us back. I know, I could have left the other two at home; but there's amazing support in numbers, especially when they are your big sister & twin sister. And they didn't disappoint.
I filled out more paper work than I have on myself, ever, at a drs visit. Anne Perry cooperated beautifully with the basics of listening to heartbeats & looking in ears & noses & mouths. And then they decided a scope was necessary.

Why would they scope a child's vocal chords while they're awake? So they will scream, of course, & they can see exactly what the voice box is doing.

Following our Dr. B's lead of complete honesty even with a child when it comes to a medical procedure, I asked all the questions of how so I could then explain it to her. The nurse described the scope as about the size of a large piece of spaghetti. That was enough for me. So I told Anne Perry they would be putting some special medicine in her nose so it wouldn't hurt & the doctor got to stick a spaghetti camera in her nose!!! She giggled & we talked about how mommy's camera was not a spaghetti camera & how we couldn't stick spaghetti up our nose (or anything for that matter)...only doctors could do that!
They came in to spray the medicine, she was amazing. Even sniffed when they asked her to. I was prepared, even in my pregnant state, to have to restrain a thrashing, flailing, freaking out three year old (because if you saw the length of the camera, you'd have thrashed & flailed too!). The nurse even told me I might have to wrap my legs around her. I said...lets just see how she does. I was so thankful the nurse trusted me enough to hold her (I wouldn't have budged on that one anyway) & that Anne Perry trusted us all.

She was mesmerized. The doctor & nurse didn't know what to do with her. She watched the big screen as we talked about her nose (& booger!), her throat & finally her vocal chords. I was amazed: amazed at how God has created our bodies! And amazed at our daughter. She didnt cry or scream, & I finally had to coax words out of her: what does mommy have in her tummy? Silence. Does mommy have a baby chicken in her tummy? No!!!! (smile & giggle). Then she started saying the eeeeee sound for the doctor. Amazing. Simply amazing.

Well...long story summed up: she has nodules (similar to callouses) on her vocal chords which cause them not to be able to close all the way. Apparently she's young for that & from what I've read now, they don't typically remove them at this age. We're working on a speech & language evaluation to pursue voice therapy as well as scheduling an appointment with a GI specialist. Her reflux was so bad as a baby, and Dr. S is suspicious that is making things worse.

We wrapped things up & Anne Perry asked for a sticker. Except then she said, Audrey Kate will want this one & Addie will want this one & I want this one. Thank you. Thank you so much! Such sweetness! The nurse asked when she was turning four...and was shocked to find out she had just turned three. Little rockstar. Amazing rockstar that had nothing to do with her or me but the fact that she was covered in prayer by so many of our sweet friends!

After almost 3 hours, we headed back out to the waiting area. There was much squealing & hugging & loving from her sisters. I kid you not: a full on welcome back to the waiting room party complete with coloring books & stickers & a present: a hello kitty doll! After being told the playground was for employee's kids only (?), my mom managed to calm a very understandably upset five year old with horribly unmet expectations (we'd been told they could play on it by the clinic desk), find the gift shop, spoil the girls with prizes & bring back the gift shop's manager who carried our heavy bag & found us not one but two wagons. Yup. I think we might have a few rockstars on our hands!
We have a lot of quiet voice training & therapy evaluations & appointments still to maneuver, but God has already made it clear that He knows the plan & knows our needs. Thank you sweet friends & family for praying over this trip. Many of you covered us in prayers of safe travel & good outcomes. As I told a friend, the unknown is what makes things hard: that it could be nothing, something or something really bad. Thankfully, it's "just" something, and we are so thankful that He goes before us!

It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed." Deuteronomy 31:8

for their Baby Brother

i've seen it done before, but i wasn't sure how it would play out with the two three year olds. but i grabbed a few canvases and blues and greens and turquoises to match Andrew's bedding and hoped for the best. we set out to create some "art" for Andrew's room.

a few days ago, each girl picked a color, and we painted (they painted and i smoothed) the background of their canvases. i knew i needed something to pull whatever they created together. a white background was not that. then the busy weekend hit, and a doctors appointment in birmingham yesterday.

we pulled everything out again today and i set them loose. my only request: don't mix all 6 colors together at once in a pile on your plate. one or two, absolutely; but just don't swirl them all around (to create brown!). i'd thought about doing a little more structured design: hand prints of something, an outline of something.

but instead. i set them loose. and it was so much fun to watch them take that big huge canvas and turn it into something they loved and created especially for their baby brother's room.

audrey kate was done first,
Untitled-4
addie paced herself, carefully painting whatever vision she had in her little head...Untitled-3 and i had to pull anne perry's away from her (bc i loved what she had done!) before she created one color on the whole canvas by mixing things all together!  Untitled-2 i love each of their designs, and i love even more how much fun they had creating them! Untitled-1 their little hearts seem to be in everything they do for one another and for their baby brother right now. i know paul and i both pray that the love and adoration they have for him right now carries right on into Andrew's birth and our transition of a family of five to a family of six!

...in less than 9 weeks!!!

McWane Center Fun

We took a road trip with some friends to the McWane Center for the day. Thomas & Addie have been friends since they were about 18m (Addie) and 2.5y (Thomas). They're now 5 & 6 and have added three (almost four) siblings to the mix!

We all piled in our van & finally made it to Birmingham after a T@rget run for shoes for one little boy who left his at home! ;)

We saw sharks & stingrays, dug for Dino bones, played at the huge water table & got "lost" in the ginormous playground. We had minimal meltdowns (for 5...that's impressive) & enjoyed a fun filled day together!
(That's Audrey Kate, Addie & Anne Perry's face imprints!)

And wore the 3 little ones out so much, this is what we had before we even left the city!

Treasure Hunt

I was searching for the library books we brought home only just today. I knew they must have slid behind/under the girl's bed during rest time, and I was suspicious we might have lost an old iPhone we use for games under the bed as well.

I pulled out the drawers and slid out the rubbermaid containers of too big/out of season clothes. But my baby belly greatly inhibits my ability to bend over and makes it impossible to crawl on it under a small space. The swiffer wasn't cutting it. So Anne Perry came in, put on Paul's head flashlight, and eagerly crawled under their bed!

But her sisters would not be outdone by her!
IMG_5643
Addie came in with a flashlight, they all switched up gear and kept pulling things out from under the bed.
IMG_5649
They dust-busted the dust, tossed out the toys, and slid out the books...and would have stayed and played longer had dinner not been ready!
IMG_5653
One Mr. Potato head ear, two iPhones, three misplaced library books, four hair rubberbands, six old pacies, eleven books and more dust bunnies than I care to count later...we had a clean under-the-bed!

I have since shoved a sleeping bag down along the side of the little girl's bed to hopefully prevent so much (their pillows included) from slipping down and under. Thing is, it can also slip down the ends. I guess our little swiffers will just have to grab flashlights every so often and go on a treasure hunt!

Happy Birthday Party

the little girls love them some Pump It Up (think three huge jumpy jump blow up things, indoors, ridiculous amount to have a party there). but it's a good thing we didvbc it rained cats and dogs that morning! they were so very excited and so gracious and grateful to be going to their birthday party. it was absolutely precious in so many ways to see them be so joyful to celebrate with all of their friends! so i'm very thankful we sucked it up and had it there. invite
because look at these happy girls!
Untitled-3
anne perry has always been our dare devil. i have a feeling she'll be my roller coaster buddy one of these days when she's tall enough!
Untitled-5
but it wasn't until a few visits ago that audrey kate would make it all the way up the slide and down on her own.
Untitled-8
and she loves it now! Untitled-6 there were lots of sweet friends to enjoy it with us. Untitled-7 some big ones...

i'd have to say it was a great success. everyone left full of pizza and cupcakes. it finally stopped raining. we collected quite a few bags and cans of dog and cat food for our humane shelter. and our sweet girls had the best birthday ever!

we then got to spend the rest of the day and sunday with grandpa, ms. gail, gramma, papa al and rierie celebrating these little girls! perfect weekend!

Happy 3rd Birthday Anne Perry & Audrey Kate! I can't imagine two more grateful, more loving, more precious three year olds! we love you!
