St. Simons Island

Last Friday, we went to St. Simons Island for a vacation with Addie's Grandma and her husband Albert along with "Crazy" Uncle Jay and Aunt Millie! It was a wonderful drive over! I think we only stopped 3 times because Addie was in a great mood and slept so well (not so much on the way back!) St. Simons has several beautiful resorts on the Atlantic Ocean. We stayed at the King and Prince because Albert had a Georgia judges conference there. It was so relaxing, with easy beach access, a beautiful view, and some great pools!

the Village

St. Simons has a great little village where we walked to/from two mornings of our stay.

"Naked Baby"
We had to strip Addie down to her "britches" because she soaked her shirt with drool on our walk over!

With either Paul or me behind the camera, we didn't get many family pictures. Here's one sitting on this tree that had branches growing in/out of the ground in the village.

on the way back from dinner...so sleepy!

The last morning we were at the beach, Addie started making her favorite new noise again. But this time, it was in response to us (we were making the same noise and she was responding or the other way around). She definitely makes us laugh! I got a quick (although very shaky) video of it on the way home. I think she managed to spit all over me and the camera! :)

St. Simon's Family

our blue eyed baby girl

Paul, Addie, and I went to St. Simon's Island last Friday to vacation with Addie's Gramma and her husband Albert, as well as Uncle Jay, and Aunt Millie! Watch for a future blog post about this part of the vacation. I also have family in St. Simon's, and we got to visit them as well! My mother's 1st cousin, Nancy and her husband, John, live on Sea Island. Their girls, Liz and Lynn, and their girls, Caroline, Colby, Perry, and Nell were also visiting for the week. So...we headed over to Sea Island to visit them!

Perry, Caroline, Colby (holding Addie), and Nell

Addie loved getting to meet her cousins (and I think they might have enjoyed meeting her too!). After attempting to explain to them how we were all related, I resorted to just saying that their Nana (Nancy) and my Mom were like them, 1st cousins. Now, I think I got the facts straight there, but saying that their Nana's daddy and my Maw Maw, neither of which they knew, were brother and sister and that somehow connected us just didn't cut it!

Lynn, Liz, John (holding Addie), Nancy, and Anna

Mary Burdell (also a 1st cousin to my Mom) and her husband Billy live on St. Simon's Island as well. Mary's mother, Gran Fran (my great aunt, and Addie's great, great aunt), also lives here. Gran Fran is Addie's only "great, great" anything (I think)! We had a wonderful time visiting with them!

Gran Fran and Mary (holding Addie)

Gran Fran's husband, Henry Green, helped create a beautiful garden across from Christ
Church where Charles Wesley actually spoke in St. Simons. A sweet couple walked in the same time we did and offered to take our picture. I, of course, had to proudly explain to them why we were taking pictures of this memorial...that this was my great uncle and Addie's great, great uncle. They were quite impressed! (or at least appeared to be!)
On a side note, our cat, Miles used to belong to Mary's son, Will. Somehow, my mom ended up bringing Miles home from St. Simon's and now we have her! Now that cat has done some traveling! :)

It was wonderful for Addie to get to meet some of the Green's (which is Nancy and Mary's maiden name as well as my grandmother's!) So now that I've totally confused everyone as to who these people are, let's just say, it's wonderful to get to see extended family!!!

Old Friends...

This Wednesday turned into a very busy day! We started out early running some errands, one of which was to get Addie a new "tummy toy!" Then we went to my mom's house to see Win. I tutored Win when he was in 3rd & 4th grade and I was a Jr. & Sr. in high school! I kept him and his little sister, SMA, for several summers. They are sweet "old" friends!

Anna, Win, and Addie

After lunch (see post below), we went to see Diane, Ellie, and Tyler to pick up a beach tent Di had found for us! (what a great"old" friend!!!) Of course I had to take some pictures!

Di & Addie and Ellie & Addie
We think this was the 1st time Ellie had held Addie. She's such a natural!

This isn't a great picture of Addie (she's sort of glowing because of the flash), but I love how Ellie and Di are looking at each other! They had been talking to Addie and making her smile!

Addie LOVES Ellie...I didn't get a great picture of them talking, but Addie was just gazing at her here and smiling! So cute!

The Castro's got a new dog a few weeks ago...Izzy. I couldn't manage to get a picture of her and Ginger (their 1st dog) together...and could barely manage to get one of Izzy. She's quite a mover, but oh so sweet and so beautiful!!! She has such pretty markings and is so soft! She loved sniffing Addie!

Addie's new outfit her Rie Rie and Mommy made her!

...and New Friends!

Well...this is really about an "old" friend and a "new" one! Lauren and I went to elementary school together. Her family moved to Virginia when we were in 6th grade, and we lost touch. But...Paul and I walked into our prenatal class and there she and her husband Rob were! Bennett, their daughter, was born about 3 weeks before Addie. Isn't she adorable!!!

Lauren and Bennett & Anna and Addie

Addie needed a nap (especially after her shots yesterday), so she zonked out; but Bennett was so sweet reaching for Addie's hand and leg. What a great "new" friend!

and another "new" friend...our Susan G. Komen poodle (the pink one on the left) that Addie's Rie Rie bought her! I looked back (at a stop sign, of course), and Addie had her arm through one ring, was grabbing another, and holding onto her new pink poodles foot (you can barely see her hand there)! Ahhh...now that's some serious perceptual fine-motor development!

4 Month Checkup

Checkups are not a bad thing. Doctors are not a bad thing. Shots are a very bad thing.

I hated shots as a child and remember a least one fit I threw (which I don't even think touches the fit I heard another little girl throw today!) What's ironic is that I gave myself over 75 shots in order to help us "get" Addie here! I guess I've overcome my fear of needles!

I survived shots as a child; we survived the 1st four of Addie's at 2 months; we will survive the 2nd four at 4 months; but I cannot guarantee that any of us will survive the next 16 she will take by the time she's 2...

Ok, ok. I'm being ridiculous, I know. I know the illnesses that these vaccines are preventing are FAR worse than putting my child through not just painful sticks but the fever and tears that follow...but it sure doesn't feel like it right now!

trying to sleep of that yucky feeling!

On a more realistic and happy note: Addie weighs a little over 16 lbs (up from 12.5 at 2 months) and is still in the 95th%ile. She is 26 inches long/tall (up from 24.5 at 2 months) but down to the 95th%ile instead of off the charts :) But...that's 3 inches away from "time for a new big girl car seat" :/ oh my!

We also found out she has a bit of acid reflux…which didn’t surprise us; but we are thankful for good drugs! We will start some rice cereal soon, and then it’s on to the vegis!

Slow down Little Bit! Again I ask the question...is there a "pause" or "slow" button somewhere?!?!?

Visiting with "Old" Friends

Paul, Addie, and I went to Birmingham Sunday afternoon to visit the Hartzogs and the Weathers! Jen, Neal and Will were down for the week from Chapel Hill and met us at Lauren, Jeff, and Ryan's house. Jen, Lauren, and I were all Chi Omegas at Samford and Paul and Neal were both Pi Kaps. The Hartzogs had never met Addie, and none of us had ever met Will.

Will was so excited to see Addie that he went straight to touch her face (see Addie's eyes)! Neal and Jen were a little alarmed that he might have hurt her! We reassured them that living with two 60lb dogs (and three cats) has toughened Addie up!

"...gentle"
much sweeter!

Addie with Jen and Neal
(she was very serious about meeting her potential future boyfriend's parents!)

Addie was a little "twitterpated" with Will. She just watched him with her little hands folded! I think Will was much more interested in her paci than her though! :)

Ryan has this great tunnel, and he was getting ready to show Jen how to crawl through it. Will even made it through it! Wow!

Ryan crawling through his tunnel! He was the big boy of the bunch!

Ryan playing with his tunnel and Mommy! He has the cutest laugh!

Will found a new toy! He was a little unsteady on it (Jen was right there next to him), but he did a pretty good job on it! Might be a future investment for the Hartzogs.

We took no less than 30 pictures of the 6 of us. None of ours came out great...so we'll wait to get a copy of Lauren's or Jen's! The boys were more interested in looking at each other than the camera!
